ImperiAL eLECTRICAL eNGINEERING sOCIETY (eesoc)

eVENTS OFFICER 2020/21

My role involved organising social events for the electrical engineering community within Imperial College. The role also involves communicating with various companies in an effort to arrange talks and other networking events.

Vice president (events) 2021/22

My role involves helping the president run this society of 1000+ students as well as overseeing the tasks of the two events officers.

Imperial college sailing club

I sailed competitively with the university sailing team with training happening 2 to 3 times a week. I regularly attend events up and down the country and have been seeing increasing success in recent years. I am also a member of Royal Thames Yacht Club (RTYC).

social secretary 2020/21

I had the role of organising the club's social activities including the successful Imperial Icicle Regatta. This involved a great deal of management, interpersonal skills, and negotiating with local venues. As this was the Covid year I had to run multiple remote events to keep up the club's social life.

trip secretary 2021/22

I'm in charge of organising and running every aspect of Summer Sail Week. A 100+ person, week-long yacht trip in the Mediterranean that I took the initiative of making a reality as the trip has never been run close to this scale in the past. This trip is open to the whole university and is a large source of income for the sailing club. Running the trip involves everything from management with the union to organising every logistical aspect during the trip, including the socials. I was effectively a one-man committee. The success of this trip is my happiest legacy to leave behind at Imperial.

In my second year of running the trip, I managed to top my first year by having 130 people attend.

Athletics Clubs Committee (sports management group)

Team field Vice-chair 2021/22

I oversee the activities of 11 sports societies at Imperial which includes: Hockey, Rugby, Sailing, Women's Rugby, American Football, Baseball, Cricket, Football, Ultimate Frisbee, Women's Football, and Yacht.

Treasurer 2022/23

I am responsible for overseeing the financial activities and representing the needs of ~70 of Imperial’s sports societies. The most taxing part of this role is reviewing and helping to create the annual budget of each individual sports club. As part of my role I sit on various boards throughout the union to represent sports clubs.

Imperial College radio

With my housemate, I co-host a weekly radio show where we share our love for music and discuss various anecdotes that may have happened in the previous week. It’s a very freeform show where we regularly bring on guests. The show serves as a nice stress relief and an opportunity to keep improving my public speaking and presenting skills.

iet diamond jubilee scholarship

I am one of ~50 students to annually receive this scholarship from the IET for a continuing commitment and interest in engineering.

Strathclyde Scottish space school

I was one of 100, S5 students out of a pool of ~600 applicants to get into the Scottish Space School. An interdisciplinary engineering program run by Strathclyde University in affiliation with NASA. I was then one of 40 to be invited back for multiple interview stages. Out of the 40, I was one of ten students selected from the program to attend an all-expenses-paid, engineering trip to the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.

This trip was run in close collaboration with NASA and gave me an insight into engineering that I never would’ve gotten otherwise. I largely attest all my subsequent interest in electrical engineering to this once in a life time experience.

the James Dyson Foundation

I volunteered with The James Dyson Foundation, running engineering outreach workshops targeted at 15-17 year olds.
